Children’s Eye Exams
According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), all children should have their eyes examined at the following ages:
- Six (6) months,
- Three (3) years,
- At the start of school.
Children without vision problems or risk factors for eye or vision problems should then continue to have their eyes examined at least every two years throughout school.
What will your eye doctor test for in small children?
- Excessive or unequal amounts of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism
- Eye movement ability
- Eye health problems
These problems are not common, but it is important to identify children who have them at this young age. Vision development and eye health problems are easier to correct if treatment begins early.
